WSWA Is Evolving: New Badges, Rankings, Flash News and Mobile App Updates

New monthly challenges, a completely redesigned leaderboard, short and properly sourced news updates, and new mobile app releases: discover what's new at WSWA.

Building an active walking community is about more than setting a daily goal. It's also about continuously improving the tools that help people track their progress, stay motivated and discover new reasons to keep moving.

Over the past few days, several important updates have arrived at WSWA.

They focus on four complementary aspects of the platform: motivation, progress, information and the mobile experience.

Here's what's changing, and more importantly, why.

🏅 1. WSWA Badges Are Entering a New Era

Badges are an essential part of the WSWA experience. They reward distance covered, consistency and the different milestones achieved by members.

But a reward system also needs to evolve to remain engaging for both experienced walkers and newcomers.

Introducing Monthly Editions

From now on, every month brings three new challenges grouped into a WSWA Monthly Edition.

The October 2026 Edition introduces this new format with three objectives:

  • 🍂 Autumn Regular: Complete 12 validated walking days during the Edition.
  • 🥾 Double Step: Walk at least 6.4 km on four separate days.
  • 📅 Three Weekends: Validate at least one walk on three different weekends.

The principle is simple: everyone starts each month on equal footing, regardless of how long they've been a member.

Another improvement is that progress is now visible throughout the Edition. You no longer have to wait until you've earned a badge to see how close you are to your goal.

Previously Earned Rewards Are Here to Stay

This is an essential part of the update.

No previously earned badges will disappear. Past achievements remain part of every member's personal history.

Recurring challenges are also staying, with a clearer layout and improved progress tracking.

The goal isn't to start over, but to keep enriching the experience and creating new opportunities for walkers.

🏆 2. The WSWA World Rankings Get a Fresh Look

The rankings are one of WSWA's central features. They allow members to discover fellow walkers, follow active walking streaks and see how many kilometers the community has covered.

The page has recently undergone a major redesign.

Bringing the Community Into Focus

The new layout gives greater visibility to the community's daily activity.

You can now explore:

  • Walkers who have completed a validated walk today.
  • Total distances covered and ongoing walking streaks.
  • A podium highlighting the longest active streaks.
  • Both streak walkers and walkers who participate at their own pace.
  • Progress toward upcoming certifications.

Additional leaderboards also make it possible to explore individual achievements and contributions.

Celebrating Progress, Not Just First Place

Rankings can be motivating, but they shouldn't make people feel that only the top performers matter.

At WSWA, someone completing their first week of walking deserves recognition too.

That's why the redesign focuses on making individual progress more visible while preserving the sense of community.

The objective remains unchanged: encouraging everyone to move forward at their own pace.

⚡ 3. Flash WSWA: Walking and Health News in a Short Format

A brand-new section has arrived in the WSWA Journal.

Flash WSWA delivers concise updates on topics directly relevant to walkers and, more broadly, anyone interested in staying physically active.

Useful, Accessible News

Topics may include:

  • Recent scientific research on physical activity.
  • The health benefits of walking.
  • Trends related to sedentary lifestyles.
  • Initiatives and discoveries that encourage movement.
  • New insights into well-being and prevention.

The goal isn't to publish as much information as possible. It's to select relevant stories and present them in a clear, accessible way.

Information Backed by Sources

Every Flash WSWA update is designed to let readers trace information back to its original source.

Scientific studies, institutional publications, surveys and official announcements are referenced so readers can explore the evidence themselves.

This commitment is particularly important when discussing health.

A scientific finding doesn't automatically translate into medical advice, and an association observed in a study doesn't necessarily demonstrate a cause-and-effect relationship.

Flash WSWA therefore aims to inform readers without overstating scientific conclusions.

It's also a new way to turn the WSWA Journal into a place for discovery, going beyond practical advice on maintaining a walking streak.

📱 4. The iOS and Android Apps Keep Improving

The latest WSWA app updates have also just been released for both iOS and Android.

These releases support the platform's ongoing development and its mission: allowing members to access their walking progress and tracking tools directly from their smartphones.

The mobile app remains a central part of the WSWA experience, alongside the website and integration options with services such as Strava.

Whether members prefer to record their walks directly or use their existing fitness tools, WSWA aims to provide a consistent and accessible experience.

These updates are part of a broader commitment to continuous improvement across both the website and mobile applications.

🌱 Improving WSWA Also Means Being Willing to Rethink Things

Behind a redesigned page, a new badge or a seemingly minor interface improvement, there's often much more work than meets the eye.

A feature that made perfect sense when it was first introduced may become less intuitive over time.

An approach that worked well for the first members may need adjustments as the community grows.

And an interesting idea can become even better after several rounds of testing.

That's why WSWA isn't meant to remain static.

User feedback, real-world usage and new knowledge all contribute to the platform's ongoing development.

The goal isn't to add features simply for the sake of adding them. It's to maintain an experience that is clear, useful and motivating.

One Shared Ambition: Making Regular Walking a Lasting Habit

The updates introduced today may seem quite different from one another.

Badges help members set new goals. Rankings make achievements more visible. Flash WSWA brings useful information and fresh perspectives. Mobile apps make everyday tracking easier.

But all these improvements share one ambition: making walking a sustainable, accessible and motivating habit.

WSWA's founding principle remains unchanged: complete a walk of at least 3.2 km (approximately 2 miles) to validate a day as part of a walking streak.

Around this simple rule, the platform continues to grow.

And this is only one more step in the journey.
